Here’s the technical bit. Whilst these can and used to involve some very elaborate lighting setups, I’ve shot a number recently where it’s been simplified – one light on grey (a close in softbox as an overhead light bouncing light from a reflector; a softbox close in at 45 degrees and a grid backlight for hair / the wall / a kicker; one light for the wall (reflector with barn doors) and one for the front (softbox). A beauty dish on rare occasions but be warned that the specular highlights and increased contrast might not suit a range of faces, skin types etc. Examples below!
