Macknade Fine Foods photography in Faversham and Ashford
Built on a 170 year history of food, farming and retailing in Faversham, Macknade Fine Foods is Kent’s leading food hall, soon to expand into a restaurant space in Ashford’s Elwick Place. What was once a family farm in 1847 has grown to occupy a 10,000sqft independent food & drink retail space & café selling anything from local craft beers to exotic fruit.
Stefano Cuomo, Managing Director of Macknade, is the sixth generation of the family business. His great, great, great grandfather, Fredrick Neame Snr, was the first to bring the family to Macknade where they farmed the land for the first five generations. During this time, Macknade Farm was one of the region’s leading growers, nationally renowned for its hard fruit, hops and livestock. If you were lucky to remember eating pears at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth to Phillip Mountbatten in 1947, they came from Macknade.
Stefano’s vision is to be the best loved and most trusted name in food & drink and this is soon to expand into a restaurant business taking a 5000 sq ft unit in Ashford’s Elwick Place.
Burgers and steaks prepared by Macknade butchers, homemade cakes and deli platters and cocktails are all set to feature on the new menu. A bar stocking beer, cider, wine, spirits and soft drinks and a delicatessen featuring local, British and continental cheese is set to be installed, all to open early in 2020.
The setup for the Faversham shoot had to take place during trading hours and so to avoid unnecessary trip hazzards (and generally getting in the way) I used two light stands and concealed them alongside pillars and displays of produce. There were also come cut away stock images to help illustrate the case study.
The Ashford shoot was a little more complex – a large battery pack powering three studio lights to bring a bit of life to an overcast day and pop of sunshine (or at least where the sunshine should have been).
