Shooting fashion photography magazine spreads for Whitefriars in Canterbury Kent.
For the last couple of years I’ve been shooting fashion photography magazine spreads for Whitefriars in Canterbury Kent. Whitefriars is one of the largest retail developments in the south-east, running a competition each year for faces to represent them in a range of marketing campaigns including billboards, posters, fashion style-guides and magazines.
With clothing and accessories usually supplied by retailers such as Fenwick, Swarovski, Next and H&M, a variety of pictures are required shot on location around the retail complex. 2015 saw a record number of applicants (winners receive a generous amount of vouchers to spend in any of the stores). Their website and Facebook pages will contain details about the competition and if you recognise anyone in the pictures below it’s because they’re not professional models!
Shooting fashion or editorial spreads on location involves using a cut-down, highly portable version of what I would use in the studio for a fashion or beauty shoot. You can’t expect to have as much control but you do need to deliver certain basic things – strong or controlled lighting, good contrast, and speed (multiple changes of clothes in a very short space of time).
