Although I’m a Kent-based photographer with a studio in Canterbury, my location work has recently included property interiors photography in Tunbridge Wells and London.

Shepherd Neame have just completed a multi-million pound refurbishment of the Royal Wells Hotel (£2.4 million to be precise). It’s been one of the company’s largest projects – replacing and upgrading the restaurant, orangery and courtyard garden. The commissions for the premier hotels tends to be split with the bedrooms covered by me and other areas shot by a long-standing colleague of mine, Jason Dodd.

The examples of the bedrooms in the gallery below were photographed using the same techniques as the dining room in the Putney London penthouse suite which was a commission from the company that supplies the bespoke dining table, Whetstone Oak. I’ve been fortunate to shoot a number of interior design and weekend magazine articles featuring work by Whetstone.

The way I shoot property interiors is never just a grab shot. There a lot of care that goes into perspective, lighting and composition in order to protect and enhance the investment made in the interior itself. I choose not to shoot HDR (high dynamic range photography) in order to preserve a natural look and feel.
