Magazine and editorial photography shoots for Hitachi Rail

In the last month I’ve completed several magazine and editorial photography shoots for Hitachi Rail to used as covers and feature images in their internal communications publications.

Hitachi Rail Europe provides maintenance for trains, rolling stock and signalling. The Ashford depot employs over 100 staff, with a dedicated maintenance team attached to the Class 395 high speed services.

The lead articles that require the cover shots are centred on particular employees with a focus on their activities outside of work. The last two employees featured included a fundraising walker taking on the Mount Kenya challenge and a radio-controlled aircraft enthusiast, passionate about flying his planes across the slopes of Folkestone.

Editorial location photography – because you don’t quite what to expect until you get there – tends to involve putting in the sun where it failed to turn up or trying to work with it if it’s too strong. For both shoots it was a very short amount of time before the weather turned to get the shot. The large amounts of space around the pictures are there to allow for the overlay of text, main titles (“mastheads”) and additional pictures.
